Belgian researchers at the University of Ghent are looking for participants for a hyperacusis and tinnitus study.
Here are some of the requirements . . .
-They’re looking for people with hyperacusis only, tinnitus only, and those who have both, and also a control group.
-Dutch needs to be the native language for participants.
-Participants can’t have hearing loss.
-A test battery will be required, which does emit noise, but the studies’ goal is to ensure the experience is always pleasant.
If you’re interested in participating, contact Pauline.Devolder@UGent.be (a PhD audiology student at the University of Ghent in Belgium).
“The research focuses on neural overactivity. EEG is our most important outcome measure, but the response of the reflex pathways (stapedius reflex and medio-olivocochlear reflex) are also important parameters. We want to investigate the extent to which these parameters demonstrate central gain and how this relates to hyperacusis symptoms, but also what the differences are with people who have tinnitus (or a combination of the two).”
